Proverbs 21:1
"The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will."
The Word tells us that God ordained some kings to be evil in His eyes, "For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father." (1 Kings 11:5-6)
David used his power as king to abduct Bathsheba from her home, "David sent messengers, and took her..." (2 Samuel 11:4) Then he used his power as king to cover his crime by sending her husband, his soldier, to the front line of the war to be killed. But God turned David's heart to Him to confess his sin against God, that's repentance.
Solomon, on the other hand, continued in his evil, "...he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart." (1 Kings 11:3)
David's idol became the mother of Solomon, according to God's providence, to continue David's lineage for God's Son to be born on this earth, in flesh, to save His people by His death, as ordained from eternity. "Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the LORD's sake...to the king, as supreme..." (1 Peter 2:13)
The children of God will submit themselves to the LORD's will, not idolizing those He puts in power but recognizing them as mere men, appointed by the King of kings, not to prosper themselves but to do God's will, for God's Glory and for our Good (Christ), "And both of these kings' hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper: for yet the end shall be at the time appointed." (Daniel 11:27)
Thankful!
